So all this hubbub about justin.tv lately. Seems like justin, twitter and the demise of newspapers rule the planetscape lately. When I think about justin.tv i think about how soon it will end. Just cause ya turn a camera on doesn't make it good tv. Checking out his site just a minute ago I see a note saying he'll never take the camera off. Never on the web is like 6 months or maybe 12 if yer lucky. I just can't see being strapped to him forever. Its a good project between projects but watching the guy sleep or run down a hall.. yah i dunno about that. For purely research purposes, the tech has potential. It'd be interesting to see how many brands you can pick up through a day observation.
Also the camera/rig system itself could be sold to people as a kit, or at least innovated upon etc. I dunno, other than that, its a youtube channel that doesnt have any real zing to it, other than live.
Already he's been pranked on a few times. Soon I could see someone robbing him on camera and the audience wouldnt know either way really.
But then lately, the world has been a strange scary place. This morning I read a story about the man in Houston that BBQ'd his 19 yr old ex-girlfriend in his own balcony grill. Thats right, dismembered and grilled for two days... in Houston.. texas.. america. WTF people my god. What drives a person to even slightly consider that, THAT is remotely a thought? Too many episodes of Sopranos on the mind? Do we love to gravitate to the extremes and then.. are we aware of their invisible marks? I dunno, but that stuff is whack.
With twitter i'm less impressed. PEople are calling it telecooning or something, or presence walking, sheesh. All this from a mini blog that you update via im, sms, email, or blogging. Crazy really. Presence is the next big thing though I'll give them that. Everyone wants to tap into presence marketing. Where am I, what am I doing, and boy dont you wish you were here.
So ya and apparently newspapers are dying.. wait dont they tell us this every 3 months or so? Yeah well they're really dying this time.
Need not apply. Nearly every cool idea i get, doesn't apply to my job. It doesn't fit or its outa scope or it just doesn't apply. Gets to me at times, everything, need not apply. Nothing applies. Striving for something new in the workplace is difficult when everything new, need not apply.
I'm probably in the wrong biz really.
Part of me misses blogging. Storing my ideas and thoughts into this... endless book it feels like.
status on prime...
Prime had its first beta test run last week. Twas a success and it yielded a ton of data for us. Its always good to see data already entered into an excel sheet. Just puts a warm glow on me. Those hours of entering the data, nope, didn't have to do it! Next up refinement of the tool. Gonna look into some at a glance reporting and auto analysis.
stuff ive been messing with...
I've been playing with Comic Life on the mac lately. Its a very easy to use app to play with. Its alot of fun too. You can check it out...
like here
or here
or even here
I've been thinking about buying this thing... and i know that seems really stupid, but seems kinda fun too... i keep thinking I could use this in research somehow..
in beta...
I've been messing with twitter lately, it hasn't latched on to me yet. Its like a mini thought blog thing. I dunno. I tried out wesabe out last night, pretty cool, like quicken for the web and i've never used quicken.. lol, i guess i can't make those claims really, but people say its like quicken or msn money for the web. More so its like flickr for money. You get cool tags, social collective tips and sweet data views.
Interest in pheeder died out on me awhile back. The eTel con just wrapped up and there's a whole new slew of voip type apps, many of which seem to go into pheeders direction. One new app called grandcentral seems pretty cool. I like the idea of listening to voicemail while its being recorded. Sadly, I don't get enough calls to really justify these voip tools.
blog bits...
Today I read a bit piece on the attention economy. This is something thats happening now, its coming, the wave is almost here really.
I've been reading the ycombinator vc news blog lately. Basically a nice list of vc, startup like news.
I caught this article in the wall street journal today... very good stuff. Personally as a blogger I write and create this material more for me than for anyone else.
