captains log... supplemental..

What the hell is supplemental supposed to mean anyways. Every frickin episode Kirk ranted on and on in that supplemental log, episode after episode. What was so darn supplemental about it?

We need new tripods at work! The mini sony is ok, but the big sony is shot and the freak bogin is a bust. Ahh well, rambling i say, ramble on nations, ramble on.

What's new in this supplemental blog? Well here's what's happening. PRIME is real! Yep thats right, the ruby on rails golden magical egg has hatched and it looks sweet floozykins, sweet, I got my own 2.0 goodness beta in the making, well hot frickin damn i say. Very cool.

In other news, work is work, and soon I be travelin around the nation watching people... SIGN! I need to make the sign.. forgot about the sign, holy crap i forgot the sign! Mental note.. add the sign.

I've had some nice time off to play with my honey, we in luv ya know, watch some scary movies, like REST STOP and do well game and stuff. Oh ya work, so ya doing the retail rig work around the nation coming up soon, should be interesting, especially now that I know I need to print the sign! the SIGN! Sigh.. I just got reminded about bias people, bias!! I hate the struggling interview, i hate it when the participant cant talk and we basically get to record 58 mins of silence. Research protocol basically says let'm wait, dont say anything ever, its a big nono. I cant wait. Cause I hate 58mins of silence, I'd rather toss some words at him and get him talking. People dont like it when I do that, but we got some of the best quotes not to mention some real design feedback when we actually connected with him. Its a bit of bait I say. In fact, I always want to say something totally oppostie or strangely assaine to really mix up the party. Like asking a gal about blenders, we know its a blender, she knows its a blender, but isnt talking. I could wait her out, ask some boring atypical obversation crap or I could throw the wrench at her.. "tell me, the blender it sounds nice doesnt it.." I mean who ever thinks a blender sounds nice, its always a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sound super loud you cant hear yerself think. Of course she rebounds from that like a mutha, "no its not nice, that whriling, especially after yer done makes me afraid of it, i tell me kids to back off it after its done and its always hot".. now theres an interesting tidbit, we could waited 58 mins of silence or hey guess what this mom warns her kids about the blender, thats a nice design, lets digg about that.

Its always the same, i'm a classic bias abuser. I will invoke bias, and of coruse, people take it out of context. I cut up a 58 min video that just so happens include a bit of my bias and they assume it was my bias for the whole 58mins, but it wasnt.. ahh well.

To me research is nothing if you cant get people to talk. I got 58mins to figure out the ins and outs and the whys on this blender and more importantly why my peep wont use it.. dont waste that time with strict protocol, get it goin, talk, have a conversation.

I'm also overly humorous with people. People warm up to me real fast, cause I'm big, funny, and i let them know that ya, i'm human too. Take the cuffs off, losen the tie, we're here to tango, talk, lets roll.

I once did usability testing with 12yr kids using a teaching program. The kid basically sucked in the UI, and what all the app did in about 9 seconds and spent the rest of the interview session running around the room and doing cartwheels. The client was horrifed, testing gone insane, data bad, all is lost, but I kept at it, hell i laid down on the floor and tossed ball around, and got the kid to talk a ton about what the heck the app was all about and what it didnt click.

Anyways, just do what you think you need to do to get the data you need, and sure u dont want it to be overly bad, but be honest, connect when you can with people and you'll get better data results. You can smell bs from a mile away just as well as they can. Be honest.

I looked at my bloglines today and saw that I had to catch up on like 5000 blog entries from all over the web. Thats not happening today. 5:21pm, I should fly myself. Cya!
