state of the flooz

Hello my floozykuns, how are you today?

Here's the skinny, its June 29th, 2006 and here is the story thus far...

Lots going on as usual. Work is good, I'm leaving the ohio.gov.taxation world and moving into retirement services for the insurance world, man does that sound soo unsexy or what? Ahh well.

ideas ive had lately:

1. Shoot a short film about identity, its one of my favorite topics to think about. I mean every day its like I get yet another reminder that the state of identity in this digital world is like crazy. Its only gonna get worse. In fact its going corporate, its become yet another income stream for the giants, they must protect us, and collect a fee and continue the madness of the ever leaking identity. So i had this daydream of a shot of gal getting mugged in an alley for her email address. Two thugs grab her and she thinks at first, the purse, but nooo, they want her email addy, and then her logon to Somethingster. Seems kooky really but there's viruses and trojans out there right now on peoples pc's doing that, so why not act it out, could be fun.

2. I missed supernova again. Well lets be frank really, I always miss whatever is happening on the east/west coast and no one seems to bring an interesting conference to ohio really. Someday I'll attend Etech, DEMO, SIGGRAPH, and NAB.

3. The word "innovation" is the big league chew of our time... at least lately. Everyone has got to slip the word "innovation" into their blog. news article, or witty writing lately. Its everywhere. More and more people are talking about innovation, or at least flaunting it around lately... my sally, that a truly innovative blender you have there... Ahhh well.

4. Keeping up with 96 blogfeeds in bloglines is difficult. In fact its a job in itself. In fact, read blogs less, read actual books more. Currently I'm reading Ultra-metabolosim.

5. Playing in Garage Band makes me want to have like a week off to mess with all these cool mac toys. I need to take more time off just to create ya know.

6. Working on a new podcast, I need to get into the habit of just podcasting and videologging ya know.

7. Beening playing with voice candy, peanut gallery, edo, noodle flix, djay, wirecast, flock, sketchup, visual hub, frameline, foottrack, oh my... gonna get final cut HD express this weekend too.... well more to come

strangeness

Switching from "editor" to "source" gets me stuck on "source" in the posting of blogness in flock.

Lets try adding a picture.

Flock

So drap and drop images seem to work.

Tags work, if we all used more tags maybe the world, er net would be a wee bit more searchable.

Ev is giving a tour to the Alliance Data systems folk next door, I hope they like us!

So i've been playing with Flock lately.  Pretty cool browser tech, the UI is fantastic, its so polished and clean, makes me feeel 2.0 baby ya.

I'm so used to using Safari, but we'll see, I have much to catch up on, maybe using flock will be good for me in that regard.

600 groups...

More tech talk for you non-techies out there. So today I get an email from flickr, a new contact has subscribed to your photostream, i think woohoo, lets check'm out. Sure I check out thier pics but then im always curious, groups... how many groups does this person belong to... the browser scrolls and scrolls and scrolls.. i dunno how many off hand, but id say 600 just cause i cant believe it.

I have a hard enough time keeping up with three email accounts and my bloglines service. Theres something about social networks the encourages you to sign up for as many groups as possible, all with the intent that at somepoint you may interact with them, i bet people lean on the side of non-interaction though. So collect to show it all off, or collect just to collect, but its like net clutter. Let me wow you with my net clutter, some 600 groups that i never check out any more but i got them, ha!

I've been enduring five 13hr days of usability testing lately. Taking notes, and seeing all there is to see for taxation websites. After 10 people or so, ya know what the problem is, but lets get more and more and more!

Sometimes between the ahhhhhhhs and ummmmms i break off into firefox and read my bloglines, i see all these feeds..... 200, 64. 12, i got for the small numbers first, to read and get that sense of acomplishment, yes im up to date on terra nova, sweet, next mashable, 36, ha, got it, engadaget...200.. ok we can do this i tell myself, and bam i bang it out.

So much net clutter out there, that and the endless sign up for an experience. Gone are the days of seeing a site that could show you something groovy, nope, these days ya gotta sign up to see anything. Generation beta has been on our doorstep for quite awhile and now, we have idea that anything, yes anything can be signed up for first before ever showing people what it is.... I HAVE AN AMAZING CONCEPT... but first.. sign up.

Corporate types love that sign up too, lets net the email address, trap the user first, then oh ya.,.. show them the goods of signing up, which is usually paying to be solicated for stuff. So many sites off the mashable posts i read today, looked interesting, but the sign up first before showing me anything bugs the crap outa me. I feel like web 2.0, needs a master beta account access, so instead of giving 400 betas a massive selection of possible logins and ids and whatnots, lets just keep it simple, im d183d/183d login and pass, there thats it, thats all i need for this year, expires in 2008.

SAve me some time, hassle, allow me to really explore with taxing my brain to the point of identity overload.

Speaking of identity, the other day i overheard some ladies down on the 3rd floor go on and on and on about being ripped off for ID theft, last thing i heard was 700,000 accounts stolen, geeeze.... and then my folks just the other day told me that the veterans database, like everyone whos been in the military since oh ww2, gone, stolen.

My best identity is right in front of ya, dont trust anything else. ID theft just drains me when i think about it. Sooooooo much crap out there needs a piece of you these days, netflix, bank, taxes, blockbuster, that beta you signed up for, google, msn, the pizza guy, taco bell, hell everyone wants a piece of you. I hate being asked my email at stupid places, like at big and tall for men, i always get asked the email, pretty soon i start making them up cause they give me that look or better yet that smirk when i say "no thanks" i get told ill miss out on deals that save me money, and i say, lets save me money right now, i have $300 bucks to blow right here, now yer tellin me you dont want it? Or then i make up email addys, snakeydave318alpha@bigdog.floppy.net, sometimes i wonder when they type that in, maybe their database can only hold a certain number of characters, maybe i can break the system.

Oh well theres my cue to get back to testing.. cya...

bedside tommy

I'm always on the hunt for new sounds. I'll go to itunes, beatport, or juno records and scrounge for chart toppers in the drum n bass, house, breakbeat sound spaces. Always looking for tracks that will keep me going.

Lately i've been in that drum n bass phase, move move move move type tracks. I love big fat wet bass lines too. I typically snag a few tracks and create a cd right away, something to name that selection.. who knows what it really means, but i always see images in my head and names for the "selection".

Today's Selection is:

its always the stupid stuff that slows me down...

For weeks now I've been cursing not having the ability to make PDFs on my own. I was sure i had to have adobe installed, etc on my mac, until today.. I ummm well found it built into OS X! DOH! Bad bad user. Ahhh well, sweet pdf goodness be mine!

so ya.. blogging...

Gah, i havent blogged in ages eh? Yes it shows. Ok so what happened... well..

1. work, I've been knee deep in this new retail ethnography gig at work lately, its like a 12 month project or something, but its fun, a wee bit stressful and a whole #$!@#load of data. lots of it, which means lots of reports, toplines, analysis, etc. its been alot of work and as such, just takes me offline really. What the heck am I doing? I'm wiring stores with cameras, and giving people hard cash to talk about their experiences in shopping for various things. Neat, fun, travel.

2. play, sure I play, we all get to play now and then, and well gaming is good, its fun, its nice to relax and go blow stuff up really,

3. work chaos, work is insane right now, we have dozens of projects in play, multiple needs happening, wire this, sound proof that, build that night vision camera rig, hook up that app on this box with this need, do this, do that, burn those dvds, code that video, write up those expenses, toss in those notes, check on those hours, read those frickin emails, death by email i say, oh ya and get to work on time..

4. just happy, mary keeps me happy, shes funny crazy and warm, her and her cat otis keep me young i think, shes busy, im busy, our lives are good but we need to take more time out to watch the clouds go by

5. todo lists overflowing, i have cash on me that ive wanted to desposit for weeks now, i have had a bad tooth ive needed to pull for about a year now, ive got contacts i need to recontact, ive got potential gigs i need to follow up on, we still need to clean up after xmas, its pretty insane really, not sure if i really want to do it all

So thats about it, its all good, just frickin busy. I'm working to catch up with all my bit needs and address all the extra stuff weighing me down that doesnt need to be there.

Summer focus is on fun, healthy living, working out, losing pounds, kissing more and stressing less.
