notes from the kick

Back in October I attended a Trendwatching Seminar in Chicago.  At that seminar I sat around the W hotel for a bit, read a few magazines, and typed away a few notes on the sidekick.  These are those notes...  in thier purest, notey-ish form.  I'm not gonna revise them much, I'm just gonna spit them out here, its kind of an interesting read trying to recall just what i was thinking.  Line breaks between paragraphs indicate seperate notes.  Some rants, others are whimsical wordings...  Some definations for you: (fast c= fast company magazine), (adv=adv films), (w=hotel w), (c2=cokeC2),

 READY SET GO!

Fast c talks about the gut as being the number 1 move groove factor for
the future, when to make gut calls and when do u need research to step
in, know yer gut but be couragousness enough to not use it when u need
more data, maybe gut minders fear data, fear the aspect of not being in
control, that control that is vision and vision combined with un
stoppable will and excessive spending can be amazing, a topic that takes
me back to the static argument of adv, can u truly make it and they will
come or do u need to make sure they'll come first, what's the threshold
of acceptable fares... Numbers, is there always a 2% population that
will simply buy anything,  is it wrong to exploit that, or is it a
reward to continue to give them something new, makes me think of
spencers, they always had such redundant crap, the black over 40 gifts,
the lude porno games, joke wares, little true innovation, more gusto
with the musto at little cost.

Fast c, page 38. How to fix coca cola, my take on the experts...

Al ries, u want to get back to the real essence, the real thing, problem
is the real thing can eat thru a tooth in x seconds, the real thing was
really bad for u, sure tasty now and then but hardly a life brand, real
thing is what people know, good tag line, established but real thing as
coke the brand image and not the actual substance cuase then yer pushin
battery acid

Tom pirko, u want new brands, why, more seperation of what the consuner
already can't handle more x related to y to z to e to r to y to k,
consumers are overloaded with choice, and brand dev u do is wasted is
the product donest fully deliver on taste and exp, yer talkin big bucks,
innovate yes, but with in the established,

Daniel, u want a 40oz can right?  U want more, more moreeeeeeeeeee

I say, c2 is working, c2 is the next step, diet c is still a nuff said
baseline product, I say bring back the smart wareness of coke,

Courage, honesty... I like that better.. Honest upfront courage maybe
that's better  but what is the true vision of ur brand, yer ideal, yer
placement, how do u distill it down into a living breathing essence

Ya know the w is a good source for inspiratoon, u can't help but be
grooved by this place, with classic golden brass maybe looks golden
surely not classical engravings in the cieling arch ways, smybols of
vines and grapes and angels... Comfy chairs and club lite dim but not
dark lighting, tinted glass panes what say whiskey blue that look out on
to the street with a cool igloo blue tint,  projected scenes on the main
arch way, bubbles landing on blades of grass, flowers twissiting I  the
wind, perfectly aligned messages day wonderland, w, willing, music u can
just barely make out, its like that everywhere, all the same volumes,
just out of reach, ok aside from the waiter juggling 34 plates
clankering back and forth... We had a good moment there.

All too oftwen I've shurgged off my own ego makin the statement to mind
that I done need it, when clearly I do, we do, credit check fast company
tells me, gets me thinkin, maybe we all need to take vredit now and
then, rise up and take a bow, its not about first, its about credit,
take some credit

So nike is comin out with mp3 shades, lance wore them, but with fearsa
over cell phones too close to our heads and tumors and cancer do we
really want to strap an ipod to our face... And what good is a 128mb
device these days in the era of 60+ gig portable devices, we need
projected some devices, we check in, assert our id #, the cameras and
cpu tracks us and projects our track listing to us, we opennly call out
what we want to hear

Seems the w does sell music, good stuff too..playin pink..immmm comin
out...

Those that don't innovate tread lightly on the shores that do

The little things u remember, w should have an online tune into the w,
listen in on what the w is playing

Sometimes I think this phone rocks standing next to cell phone towers

This phone is utter crap at times, one simple 1.87 foot fall and sim is
dead!

So its sunday, 10pm, alarm set bout to sleep.  I read the latest
fastcompany, 101 top ides for the future, 1 is age of intuition, duh,
gut over focus grps, I can see that, but all the more reason yer
product/brand should scream out that its intuitive.  Gut works when yer
tellin a story n the ride isn't long but if there's a journey ahead a
user expects some placed confidence and intuitive deisgn, all the more
reason why research is important.

raise that glass of wine!

Yesterday I raised a glass a wine to Viktor Yanukovych....eh?  Somehow in the heat of conversation ole Viktor sneaked up on me and said "cheers to me!" and in flash of conversation.. the glasses were raised... all hail el Viktor!  Now thats a name btw, Viktor!  That goes well with all the Lord of Rings dvd's i've been watching lately, we need a good character named Viktor!  Anyways, last night Mary and I met with her Improv friends and enjoyed a nice dinner at Bon Vie in Easton.  We drank a fablous Lousi Vino'something that was quite good.  In fact we drank about four bottles of it.  Quite nice.  Dinner was yummy as well.  Afterwards we headed out thru the cold, damn cold lately btw, and back into the mall area of Easton to Funnybone to watch the Midwest Tool and Dye Improv group.  It was a good show.  Very funny, good improv.  I really need to go to more shows like that.

The weekend holiday festivities went along fairly well though the weather sure messed me up in a few areas.  On xmas eve I managed to pin the mini on an iceberg like shelf that got the front wheels off the ground.  Luckily it just outside my apartment.  I used a shovel, that didn't work.  I made a spear, yes a broom handle duck taped to a kitchen knife.  That worked for a bit to crack the evil ice.  I used a seat cushion to save my knees as I crawled nearly under the car to carve out the ice.  I used boiling water to melt away as much as I could as well.  Eventually I cracked it, the ice gave way and the mini met the ground again.  Typically the mini does pretty well with snow really, but the ice situation we have around here is nasty.  I just about totalled the mini later in the day as i spun thru an intersection and dang near hit an SUV that just sat there and watched me come closer and closer to it.  I got within 7inches of them.  Yikes.  I decided then and there and ya know.  If I don't need to drive, I'm not gonna.  I hear it will be in the 40's by thrusday.  Hopefully by then the plowers will get back out on the road and finish the job they started before the ice arrived.

Twas a wonderful xmas.  I wish all you floozies a happy holidays.  May this week of work blow by quickly and may we all have a festive new year!

merry xmas floozies

Well another xmas comes to pass this festive holiday season.  I wish everyone a merry xmas!  I hope the snow keeps fallin here in cowtown ohio and i hope you all have a safe merry holiday season.  As this year comes to a close its important to look back on the state of the flooz and remember what worked, what didnt, what changed lives and what didnt!  I'll get to that later.  My xmas shopping is nearly complete and yet I keep finding odd things here and there to buy.  I bought 2 plates today at north market.  They were cool!  No idea what i'd really do with them other than to serve and entertain folks with cheese and what not but hey what the heck.

Actually its kinda a strange plate xmas, cause i bought a bunch of those funky tokyo sushi plates as well.  And what I really need are glasses.  Ahhh well.

One more gift for papa and we'll be all set.

December 20, 2004

and god bless us, every one

This weekend Mary and I ventured north east to a little town called Danville to stay a night at the White Oak Inn, a bed & breakfast nestled in the countryside.  Twas fun.  We had a room in guest house, a roaring fireplace which i'll get to in a minute and all the basic comforts.  Basic, cause yer in the country and away, you don't need a TV.  We were in the Dogwood room, which was formerly the chicken coop.  Heh.

Mary and her friend Beth have been planning this trip for awhile now and well I came into the picture so Mary asked me to go.  I love road trips really so yes, LETS!

The drive up was nice, staright up 62 and a little bend around 36 in the town of millwood.  Some nice rolly hills up there as well, I love the rollercoaster roads where I feel like the mini will fly off the top of the crest of a hill.  Can't drive too crazy cause yer in amishville and horse and buggies are scattered about but still a nice drive.

The White Oak Inn had nearly a full house, aside from our double date action of me and Mary, and Beth and James, there were about 10 other couples present.

We had tea.. yes.. TEA!  And it was nice.  Then we all sat around the living room for the main event.  A one man show version of Charles Dickens Christmas Carol.  I didn't know really what to expect.  I was just told, after tea, 2hr show, and then dinner.  I hadn't eaten lunch that day so I was a weeee bit hungry.  I kept visualizing black angus steak in my mind.  But the actor, a man in his thirtes who had been doing the 1 man show at the White Oak Inn now for 10 years strolled into the room and lit it a blaze as he dived in and told us the story.

He played all the characters, and read the story perfectly to a T.  In fact afterwards I found the story on the bookshelf and looked it over.  I thought maybe in a performance, you'd skip a bit, but he didn't as I read over the first few chapaters.  He was very lively and did all the motions around the room as he went from character to character, the ghosts, scrooge, the narrator etc.  An excellent voice as well.  A really great show.  Next year he's going to do Sleepy Hollow, which I think would be awesome considering this guys character is so animated.

Afterwards we had a lite dinner indeed.  Still no steak for me.  Ahhh well.  The soup and bread was good.  We returned to the room and Beth and James came over and we broke out the wine! - And the fire!  Ya know I really like the idea of a fireplace in the bedroom.  Thats a good idea.  A roaring fire all night long just a few feet from the end of th bed is a great thing!  After much wine we called it a night.  In the morning we awoke to beautiful snowfall!  A perfect weekend in the country.  Nicely done.

On the way back was fun, the roads had about 2inches of snow on them and no one plows, not that I expected it really being so far out there and all.  The mini had fun zippin around.  Mary looked thru the Select Registery  they gave us when we checked out.  She's already thinking of new places to visit.  I think sometime in Jan or Feb we're gonna hit another Bed & Breakfast.  They make for a nice relaxing weekend.

December 17, 2004

i've never been one for due process

My talent in general is spontaneous creative combustion.  Applied to my current profession of research I end up with fairly stable predictable outcome.  However over time its clear to me what works and what doesn't and lately I've been a stubborn dick about what doesn't work and rather than taking the typical shutout, I take it all the way to source and confront them.  I will always been the jack of all trades.  I can dabble in this, speculate in that, kickss in this other thing, know a bit of that, have some tasty observations in y and have heavy interests in z.  Its a good and bad thing for me.

I do get snagged on things like the big picture, fixing something in the interior of a project when the outside is unusable really rubs me the wrong way.  Its like here, fix this gun firing mechanism and btw, gun itself is not usable nor wanted or even realized by the end user.  So why fix G, when a b c d e f haven't been addressed yet?  I always get hung up on this.  Cause so much of the real experience, or adoption of this product relies on it being "real".   However I'm a ho like anyone else, I'll take the work, perform as needed, submit my results and move on.

Lately I've been getting nipped here in there on things.  There are always pawns of power in play.  Those that fight for clout, space, say, lately its been say.  Who's got say over x over y over z.  I'll probably never have say of research methodologies or approaches to the extreme of x and y and z.  You get say based on yer background.  Do I have 20 years of interactive blissful xp?  No.  Can i make some reccomendations?  Sure.  Do I have years of xp in video?  Yes.  Technology?  Yes.  Creative approaches to field research needs?  Yes.  Report writing?  No.  Hah... Like the blog my report writing is a stream.

Alot of times I fight for more realistic reports.  A 50 page document looks nice, yep, its heavy.  If I was Howard Huges of X corp, I'd look at it and if I couldn't find resolve or any realization of what went wrong in the first 3 pages - I'd show you the door.  I like to get to the point.  And not all scholarly either really.  Biz does have its share of word wizards, but consumers rule them, consumes buy them, consumers in the common language of 'this sucks" or 'this rocks the house" is what makes people passionate.  So say it.  Take out the 14 point scrabble words, dare to actually say what you wanna say without sending people to dictionary.com to better understand what you mean by "this blows fix it".

I realize there's a fine line of course.  My hurdles are often, like web design, i get stuck in what I want.  Creative types do that I think.  We get locked in on one aspect and then we freeze, cant move until we figure it out yet that aspect of its development is trivial really, move past it, innovate, thats what you do.

Trying to juggle what I want and what I want to say and how I want to be read is important.  Lately I've taken what is at first a type of slam, and turned it around on the would be slammer.  And what gets me the most is terminology.  We profess that we need to tell the client to speak in the common language of the customer in order for their application to be successfully adopted and here at work, I barely find common language between co-workers.  My example of X are Y to someone else, so I get told.. "we didn't have Y.." and I say "well thats X" and they say "yeah but.." and there's nu but usually.  We are creative thinkers, if two apples are on the table and one is "delicious" and the other "new york whatever" type, we can't even agree that they are both apples.  One apple must yield to the other apple.  Sometimes I think its funny how research firms express these golden rules for doing it right amongst the masses yet they themselves need to go look in the mirror as well.  Why can't people see similar aligned values and make the connection that hey this goes with this.  But instead i get reminded that I missed Y.

Fight the fight that's worthy of fighting.  I'm old.  I take pride in caring about what matters really.  Petty arguments don't go far with me really.  Get over it.  Change and move on.  Someone wants me off a project - cool by me.  Be productive.  Typically its fine really, lately, I've had fine with an added clause for why.  Cause if I don't know why then I can't improve or factor in whether or not I want to improve, or if it makes sense to improve, but I want the option.  Other wise I can't really learn anything.  No one can.

I've done some interesting lines of work really.  I've sold broadcast video gear, I've sold Avid's and editing systems, I've worked with great consultants and trendy sales folk, I edited Japanese animation and subtitled on an avid god forbid.  I've edited trailers and created web sites, I've created visual image campaigns to stimulate a brand, I've been a voice in marketing and brand perception and placement in the marketplace.  I've made reccomendations and shared my undying passion for what I feel is a "hit", a judgement that if fails costs you dearly.  I've worked on live action films, worked hand in hand with directors, I've done field research and devised mechanisms and research approaches that are out of the box.  I've pushed aside what typically is expected and tried to over deliver in all my works.  I've met with clients and talked the talk but always made it clear that honesty is king.  Be an ass is fine if you want to impress, but being yourself is far more impressive.  I've made everyone laugh a bit along the way.  It's been a good ride really.

So take it easy.  Fight for what's important, friends, family and love for one another... damn that sounds cheesy.  Don't ya hate it when love one another just sounds so hookey?  Ahhh well.  Be respectful but remember to laugh, pick up those pennies and have a good time ya know.  And remember, always remember, you've come a long way baby!

killer pics

Damn fine art!  Doh, where'd I put that link.

randomness duely noted

A very cool show, I will miss.  :(

Holy hipsters batman

Finally, its official - the Sidekick II gets in sync!  At last total no brainer sync-age for the hiptop to outlook and back!  Wow, this is really really nice.  Happy I am!  Smile I will.  Merry.. or mary.. that is I will be!

My xmas shopping is nearly complete, it will be a funky frisky xmas from yours truely.  Never a dull moment and I'm nearly positive that no one will really ever NEED any of my gifts, but hey they are funky and groovy so what the hey ya know.

I dropped quite a bit more this year than last but ahhh well.  And I always get some biggie gift fer me, ya know like a reward for making it this far.. i'm debating 6-session massage pack vs 6-session personal trainer pack.  I'm thinking personal trainer pack.  Get my ass back in the gym right ya know.  Some expert advice is nice.

My 6 month end on the weight management program at McConnel is coming to a close this month.  My thoughts?  Excellent program.  I was gun and wired and the coaching and advice along with my hunger to do more and more really kicked ass the first 4 months.  As of late, i've slacked off considerably but the weight has stayed off, mainly due to the diet.  That is in place I think.  I think the McConnel program could be more attentive to the younger more frisky generation, i mean for $133 a month I'd like to be sing and danced to ya know.  The big question is do I renew for the weight program or go just fitness and hack my own way thru to completion.

I've lost 30+ pounds by now.  A good deal, but I want alot more off.  So maybe the best bet at this point is to get the personal trainer package, kick my ass back into gear and renew the weight management program.  And buy an ipod mini, I need some motivation.  Talking to nik the other day when he asked for 120bpm please, made me think, ya I need that too.

So for the next 6 months I have not just weight loss goals but a few others as well, I'd like to try yoga, get my warmups down - heck actually do warmups, do more stretches, consider tai-chi etc maybe, honestly try some meditation, develop a good at home plan.  Mere goals, minor really.  And remind myself its ok to go slow, yer not in a rush, just get to the gym, I dont care if you get a water there or read the newspaper, or just use the pool, go to the gym.  Thats the big hurdle presently.

On a seperate note, shopping for lingere is not an easy task.  Ya just don't know ya know yet its hard to make it a suprise, and ya want the suprise to be really a suprise ya know... Hmmm.  And its not just lingere.. or maybe it is.. maybe its a class of that.. I dunno - insert guy here.  Anyways ahh yes I want more, like a sleepshirt, comfort is key.  I want my baby comfy ya know... but not this comfy.. !

I showed Mary this pic yesterday...

..and she replied "ummm yer head goes on my lap baby!!"  True dat!

As to where to shop for sexy things, well first off ole Vic, but not everyone is built like that.. in fact, them be rare me thinks.  So Lane?  More in line yet the friskyness of selection doesn't appeal to me.. ( oh is that cause yer brainwashed by Vic?.. ) NO.  Its more that I feel a lack o style on these Lane pages.  Hmmm lets hunt some more.

sharon apple xmas

This morning I awoke to snow.. snow in my little town of cows.  Lately the music selection in my car has been lacking so I dug threw a few piles in the room and snagged a cd case of 50 or cds... havent listened to these in awhile, what the heck.

First cd on the way to work this morning, well first good one that is, was Sharon Apple soundtrack ep single cd.  Ahhh miss apple, she brings back a few memories...

and my favorite image.. cause she is just a cpu ya know..

Such a nice crazy computer.... Ahh well.  Still I couldnt get it outa my head that Sharon Apple really needs to release an Xmas cd.

I'm sure i'll post a bit more as the day goes on.  Oh ya and on endaget today I came across sidekick2 hacks!  Holy cats, theres a ton of apps out there for it using the developers kit and what not.

Check it out.  Like lots to do with the hiptop now.. very cool.

December 13, 2004

STEP 3, breathe

Ok the worst I think is over.  Now let the rush of goodness back in.  Actually its back to all things normal which is still just as much of a fire fight but a weeee bit better.

So what else is happening?  Workouts.  I got to get back into workouts.  The whole holiday blitz with all the family back there for turkey day really kicked me off the schedule.  Not good.  And this whole darkness thing doesnt do me either.  I need light!  I used to always work out at 5-6ish pm, there was light, now at 5ish we have total darkness, i look outside and I want to sleep.  So i'm trying the morning ritual, which is much harder, cause i love to sleeeeep.  Anyways I'll take it slow and see how it goes.   Hopefully I'll swing on into good grooves again.  I need it.

Mary and I are good, yes thats her name, Mary.  We're going on a few months now.. oooooooooohhh yes I hear the crowd around me say.  Hey it'll be a good xmas ya know.  She does make a killer pizza.  One of these days I'd like to get together with graves crew here and do that... Dream Dinners thing, yes thats it.  Could be fun.

Tonight I'm having eggs with dave and hope to catch up on his gatorness news there.  All seems well out there for peeps, sure got plenty to do it seems.  I need to get my xmas shopping done big time.

This weekend I zoned out nearly completely on World of Warcraft.  After sucking the late badness on friday at work I fell into a mean mess of WoW game play action on saturday, (however the friday evening was quite nice :).  It was really fun actually, I do enjoy that game alot.  Like any time sink though I come up for air and wonder.. wah where did they day go?  Sometimes ya just need to seriously disconnect though ya know.  Winter in cowtown is like that, its either tv, movies, or games... and lately, girl, games, workout.. thats my reality.  More so games, girl.. work?  Ahh well - the workout is coming back.  Hey it works.  I just need to stop buying books.  I keep buying them and they stack up in the corner of my room.  I need to the library.  Or Clints.. hahaha.. ok well, if you want good scifi its probably there.

Doh I just remembered... dang, cancelled another massage.  I seem to make conflicting appointments lately.  I really need to get my sidekick all aligned with what the hell im doing lately.  ER my sidekick phone.. the other day I mentioned to someone "sec i need my sidekick" and they gave me the clueless super hero look and said..umm sidekick, thats what you call yer phone?  Like dude its just a phone man, its not like a wonder twin!

Pitchblack outside.  Darkness for real.  And I am already falling asleep.  Well tomorrow will be better.

STEP 2, panic

Man just every possible far left wing scenario on anything happenin my world lately has occured.  Not good.  Anything not on the menu, or not on the suspected track or planned outcome is a big negative in my book.  I have to print a new list of rules for my office, huge text.. plan, plan, backup plan, just plan.. and test, test, and more so test.  Just thinkin about it makes me ill, it actually gives me a headache just worrying about all the random factors of badness that always occur.  I mean always occur.  You plan for it, sometimes you make it, you dont plan for it, and it bites you big time.  I got bit twice this weekend.  Not good.

We definately assume waaaay too much.  I wish i could go back to my typical nay saying self.  Its a comfortable peaceful place, may not be too risky but it always gets to the finish line.

For awhile I thought maybe its a perception thing, like i more obsessed with eventual outcomes while others are not.  I dont know.  I just know i hate getting bit.  I'm juggling 3 projects, 5 outstanding leads and biz dev deals, 2 techncial nightmares one of which is really big and bad and i have no solution for currently.  So stress at work this week?  2 weeks before xmas?  Ya I'd say a little sure.

Also any place that is not yer backyard you dont have a fuckin clue about so dont assume anything.  I dunno we see the global world and usa arrogance and we assume we got it covered, they'll be a 7-11 there im sure of it... i mean its just like my backyard.. but its not people!!  HELLO!  Ahhh well.  But that just leads to more fustration, and of course i'm speaking in code here really i dont want to offend certain peoples at work etc.  But we need to factor in the unknown in advance more often cause while it may be a the occasional rare spawn, when it spawns - IT REALLY HURTS!

December 09, 2004

holidays

Well the holiday season is here.  What to buy what to buy!??!  I need this, no that, and some of these, oh and this too.  There are some things I need I suppose but getting other gifts is far more pleasing I think.  So with that in mind lets look at a few online stores i'm checkin out.

I saw ads in chicago awhile back for RedEnvelope, interesting site. Hmmm maybe get a personalized ginger bread house.  Oh ya.  And then theres Elsewares, got that link from Newstoday the other day.  I like the socks.  Elsewares is a TAD more affordable me thinks.  Then earlier today I took a sneek peek at DeanDeluca.  I keep getting mailings from there.  Hmm maybe some chocolate or steak perhaps?

Sometimes I wonder why I have all of these odd ball magazine subscriptions.  Real Simple, Budget Living, Dwell, I mean I occasionally find a nice thing or two in them but why really.. why..  Well I just pulled out a nice piece on retail shopping patterns from Real Simple, lol, never thought I'd see a bit like that in that mag of all places.  Its freshing though.  Its like get a gut vibe to follow these mags and then moments like this confirm the gut.  Listen to yer gut.

I'm especially hard on Real Simple.  Its a huge magazine and 89% of its content seems directly aimed at women.  Being the lonesome man reading this magazine I blow past all the ads and perfume swatches and dig out the little bits that interest me: the good cheap deals on gift ideas, a nice article on motivation, the retail shopping patterns piece, a nice guide on stretching, a receipe on spicy holiday nuts, a comparison chart on caffinee - i love their comparison pages and... woah... syncronicty just arrives.

Last sunday while visitng my folks I was asked to come over for dinner this thursday.. well thursday has arrived, on sunday when my mother asked me what I wanted for dinner I thought about it a sec and said ooooo beef stroganoff.  I love that dish.  Well thursday is here and while flipping thru the Real Simple, guess what appears on the very last page, typically their thicker paper hand out that has all these little bits of helpful info and quotes.. well down in the bottom left hand corner - a receipe for beef stroganoff.  Huh.  Maybe I was channeling thursday from the future back last sunday.  Who knows.  Kinda cool.  Anyway ya slice it.

Let's flip thru dwell..

Reading dwell makes me wanna buy a new sofa and some art prints.  And for some reason I'm curious just how cool my faucets look.

Hmmm maybe I need jawbone.. I dont think the sidekick supports it.

Xanderblue, cool

I've gotten the go ahead to persue a few research ramblings of my own.  Spawned off initally after my tall tales report from attending one of the Trend Watching seminars this year.  Actually the talk I gave spilled over into neomat, flickr, skype and other fun and furious tools of the web.  Life-caching!  We need more they say.  Actually most folks havent got a clue on how to harness all this creative energy.  The plan is to devise a test scenerio where tools like blogging, flickr, neomat, etc would aid the process etc.  Sounds simple at first but you have to factor in all the audience members that have no clue what yer talking about.  Its like emerging technology meets pratical application or something.  More on Project X later.

Samsung was here the other day and we had a little discussion on the future tech of digital cameras merging with camera phones.  The room was a bit divided, some saw the future of X while others saw Y.  I think 5 megapixel camera phones will be a reality, in fact no one debates the realitiy of the products, in fact they say its all very possible but the whys and what users want.  Thats the intersting thing.  When asked about other companies Samsung developers compare themselves too in the way of innovation, only one really stands out and who could debate it really, Apple and the ipod success story is hardly new.  But when I think pure innovation Apple just improved on a concept that was happening out there already and then threw up there to cult status.  Thats what they really sell, a state of mind.  They close all the gaps along the way and make the experince so rewarding the product is faught for, cheerish, loved, cults explode over it.  Did they innovate and create the best chips, or drives or circuts? no, they take whats out there, and improve on it in the experience deliverable.  Seeing these men all nodding when Apple is mentioned makes me wonder can Samsung let go of the quest for chips and find a path that is simmilar to Apple's?  I mean everyone is doing this right now.  What's next?  In 2006 what is gonna be the bomb product?  Will it be your 5 megapixel camera phone that auto blogs for ya?  We broke off the product discussion and funneled into where people are going to be in 2006.  What is the culture going to be like?  Whats a user in 2006 doing, eating, living, breathing, what his or her day like, how do they get to work, what are they wearing, what the issues around them.  Who will be the adopters of the concept, who will champion it, press it home, spread it like wildfire, what events will carry it into legendary status.  Its gonna happen one way or another, but whos brand/product/experience will capture it.

In fact some of Samsung folks were a bit standoffish when we talked about tech, as if its all possible thats not the issue, its kinda intersting to think youve arrived at a time where its all possible, but how are you defining this all possible and what is that i think. I still agree its about the experience.  Well yes and no, its like the stages of infection, first its the few, then the infected, then the others, then the masses.  The problem is the few get the all the hard work, they have to push it home just to get it into being, then the infected arrive and the few are saddened that what was for them is now for others, which leads to the others, now you got a mess of folks into it, then it pops and the masses arrive while the few go off to get another.

Holy camera phones batman.. some good stuff here btw, in fact alot to read.  Gah, get prints from yer camera phone!

Something extra I don't need but would be fun to mess with...

the Skype answering machine, now thats handy - wait i need to use skype first.

PVR blog has a nice review of Beyond TV, a tivo like app for the pc, I have tivo, I love it.  I got it roughly two years later after my friends raved about it on and on and on.  Heh, i'm slow like that.  I also picked up snapstream way back when and could probably upgrade to this Beyond TV if need be.  Maybe setup a box downstairs.  But I find that unlikely, not like I really spend any time down there.  I really need new couches first.

Gah this will suck

Tivo is an amazing product, to see this happening really sucks.
