tablet me

HP has a new tablet out, the TC1100 and its.. nice.

What's new?

Greater performance from trusted Intel® Pentium® M and Celeron® processors (Ultra Low Voltage)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition
Improved sparkle-free glass and 160 degree viewing angle on Pentium M based tablets
Better graphics experience with 32 MB of dedicated memory
Increased system memory up to a maximum of 2 GB
Secure Digital slot for removable media allowing you to easily swap files between handhelds, notebooks, and cameras
Battery-free digital pen that supports pressure sensitive applications for a better writing experience
Integrated Intel® Pro Wireless 2100 Network Connection (802.11b) wireless LAN, upgradable to G
   Integrated Bluetooth PAN
   Fast Infra-red (VFIR)
An additional security lock slot to secure tablet in notebook mode

Pricing starts at 1.8k and ends at 2.4k basically. Tempting so tempting. I really need to start work on the new data capture app that I think will change the way we capture data in the field and bring it to where it needs be.

My HP contact here in town tells me Bishop Hartley Highschool has got tablet crazy, a year ago I knew about the pilot test in using these tablets as a notebook replacement in schools, the test went well, now it seems they have 180 of these tablets in use and have 230 on the way. Seniors get a tablet, all of them and it replaces all text books. All text books are intergrated into Microsoft's OneNote software.

So I knew that the Seniors were getting full access, heck they're own tablet pc for their studies, intergrated textbooks thats awesome. What suprised me more was that juniors, sophs and freshmen were now getting tablets as well, they hand them out at the start of class etc. This total tablet pc take over of the classroom along with mass wifi injection is pretty cool. I'd like to observe a class of kids in a world of just tablets. This is clearly not the way college kids are going at it. In past research i've seen the direct opposite laptop intergration was next to none, maybe this process of getting the kids to the technology earlier can foster more use in the future. Very cool, I plan to check out these students with a research project soon.

Meanwhile I must think .net ink app development.. Heh. Nudge nudge! All in good time.

SponngMonkey was what a mere few years before Quizno's took it eh? Actually I prefered the YeknommGnnops spelling of it.

I've been meaning to mess around with Skype but just haven't invested the time with it. It's not like I make along distance call every day.

Maybe Clint, Todd, Bob, Troy and who else need this

Church Windows is here!

"Hitachi has announced a camera system and display that can be used to shoot objects in real time and display them as a hologram-like 3D image that is visible from all sides. In Transpost, the company's prototype display, images of the object shot from 24 angles are processed and projected from the device's base onto a mirror in its ceiling, from whence they are reflected onto 24 mirrors that in turn bounce them onto a rotating screen. The resulting image is something like the "holographic communicators" that are a science-fiction film staple."

the ugly face of gizmodo

Gizmodo was probably the biggest must see blog last year. Everyone opened their eyes to the world of gadgets and Gizmodo made the scene just in time. Since its presence on the net many blogs like it have followed. The net collective is addicted to new things, least I know I am.

However the old gizmo is out and the new gizmo is in.. and for a time I accepted it, however today I will say otherwise. To me it went from a nice small idea with massive support from the net to redesigned ad clustered not so neato not so new blog. Ever since the redesign my visitations to Gizmodo have left an ever increasing feeling that its simply not that great of a site any more.

What causes this? Is Gizmodo simply no longer interesting? Have I had my fill of newness from them and moved on?

I miss the classic blog look with minimal ad's. Now we have the new ad here, no here, oh and here blog look with a real cold feeling to it. It feels too robotic, too blah, too blah blah blah. Design of a site doesn't usually deter me but in Gizmodo's case it went from a friendly face to a "woah what happened to you.." look. I don't have a problem with people wanting to make a little $$ on their blog but the box ad's have to go. Go back to simple google text ad's and bring back the old look.

So aside from site design or lack there of, the other big problem with Gizmodo is that it doesn't feel new any more. The news isn't all that, in fact lately its been pretty bland. Makes me think they lost some contributors or something and I don't accept the notion that nothing "new" is out. In fact i aquire more newness from other sites which leads me to think folks have abandoned Gizmodo to a certain degree.

Gizmodo seems plain and bland to me, I'm thinking of dropping it from my blogroll.. and i don't feel bad about it. Heh, I dunno its interesting to see how sites evolve from their inital concepts.

bang!

Sigh. Well 18 color dvd prints and sadly my views on the Epson 300M cd/dvd/multifunction color printer are quickly sliding into the darkside. The front loading tray concept which i thought was much better than my 900 has turned out to be more hassle than i'd like it to be. I found myself surfing the Primera SignaturePro website after a mere 10 attempts to getting one god damn dvd to print! Ok maybe I SHOULD consider a real cd/dvd printer. I mean we got 40 more dvd's to print. I can't sit here and struggle with this thing for 30mins a disc.

Besides $1500 for a cd/dvd color printer hey thats not too bad. HA! Ahh well. GRRRRRRRR BANG! I say... Epson just lost mondo points. Nothing like the bad experience to wipe your mind of technology. Now the very thought of using it again pains me. I can't wait to see how others interpert the load problem, i give it a week before 'must get something better..' and i really wanted to get a plotter next. Ahhh well.

The Ultimate Bruce Lee Remixer!

Extra Ecclesiam Nulla Salus

Well not really.. but ive always loved the latin language. Wooo doggie ive had a good run tonight!

Fun fun link madness. More and more location based awareness activities. Seems alot of folks are hittin the scene with wifi finder technology. Kinda cool really, another market we missed eh? Doh! We're crankin so much wifi juice at work i'd love to be able to tap into that sometime.

I've been GPS searching tonight, looking for a good GPS for the tablet. Found lots of links, sooo much info to absorb. April will be here before ya know and thats when our big "experiment" is set to take place. Hmmm must research!

Ever hear of Transmediale?

"The theme of transmediale.04 is Fly Utopia! In contrast, the transmediale award competition is an independent element of the festival, so that submissions to the competition can relate to the festival theme, but they don't have to. Likewise, it is possible to send in concepts, project proposals and materials about the theme, independent of the competition.

Dreams and illusions have been abandoned by our present society only on the surface. Rather, after the collapse of the 20th cenutry's grand ideologies there is once again an increasing search for concepts that point beyond the restrictions of the factual and that offer visions of the old and the new potentials of creative action. In this context, digital media, and technology in general, maintain their ambivalent image as objects of utopian hope and as signs of an impending apocalypse." gah.. kinda deep there..

I often find myself staring at this site looking for generative art applications. Ya free apps baby, I want them! Typically such applications win awards at transmediale so every year when the design community takes notice of this festival, i go hunting. And really its a hit and miss surfing session, some links go no where while others.. spawn a motherload of interesting apps, ideas and more.

Such finds like RE-CODE, pay what you feel that product is worth.. thru RE-CODE, i love the site presentation and the commericals, top notch!

Back on the pursuit of generative art apps I stumbled upon Google Synth...

"GoogleSynth uses the Google Image Search thingy to randomly grab two images as the "input" and "target" images for the algorithm. In order to do this GoogleSynth uses a large word list (about 62,000 words) and randomly selects two words from it. It then does a search with each of these words and randomly selects an image from the first page of results. If there is an error it will simply select a new word and try again. "

Sure you can say why dan why.. but hey why not! Then theres flexplorer, a program that explores website structure. And looks like traceyou is pretty cool too. Hmm more oddness in Netarium. N-Generate has been around for awhile now and is capable of producing some interesting generative art pieces. Lastly take a look at iSee.

getting closer

Location Based Magical Goodness, or Active Campus. Very cool! Indeed! Where Fi and more. Hmmm tools of the trade? Photostudio? I think its time for me to buy a GPS. Hot damn its here!... ya know reading the specs on their position wifi engine system, its not more evolved that what danotes does. Even thier accuracy is only 3'feet man.. I can do 3'feet and better! Course a big hitch with thier setup is tagging people with a wifi enabled device.. not quite practical in retail observation least in my scenerios but still very interested in the tech.

so far so good

Accu and BeALL dvdr media has been approved.. especially BeALL media for it works on the tivo recorder as well. Woooha! The day of thanks is upon us.

Hey Cingular just bought ATT Wireless, so i guess my service is now cingularless or something. Hmmm 41 billion! Boooooha! Maybe i should keep the hiptop afterall.

Gee og ga guy. I once knew a pair of girls in highschool who created their own "girl talk" language in art history class. They were quite good at it and could ramble all day long, i just remember them saying "gee og ga guy"... everything had a g in it. And there were set rules etc... i bet they still know it.

lost in the racism?

Many of you know that Lost in Translation was Talkin Crap's movie of the year for 2003. It was without a doubt the most touching compelling picture I had seen in a long long time. A movie with solid writing that didn't sell out and told a simple story. And of course highlighted in Japan even better.. however... today while surfing my blogs I got a whiff "racism" that this movie supposedly projects about the Japanese.

Racism? They want to ban if from the Acadmey Awards...

"The main characters' callous treatment towards these stereotyped Japanese is unfair and offensive. The main characters are portrayed as normal people while the Japanese are bizarre. The main characters prey on the Japanese and their inability to understand English. Particularly offensive are the hackneyed stereotypical jokes such as the overdone juxtaposition of L's and R's, mocking them because they bow and are short, and references to their disgusting food. The main characters visibly express disdain, and make insulting remarks and jokes in the direct presence of Japanese characters. There are no redeeming Japanese roles in the film, nor is there any significant dialogue between the main characters and the Japanese characters. They merely serve as buffoons for the main characters to ridicule. "

Sure I suppose you can make these extreme observations and if your going to do so then you must obsever the opposite, the scene at the temple and the flower making, along with emotional views of the city itself in silence high up above in the towers of tokyo. I find it crazy and offensive to to consider this movie as racism. Typical I assume you can't make any movie these days without offending someone. Even when you do play the honest card, what really happened, even then thats offensive and must be destroyed.

Seeing Lost in Translation reminded me of my adventures in Tokyo, and yes the material is quite famillar but I also see the good side of it like Coppola did with intergrating the temple scene and highlighting the traditions of Japan.

one note from the comments section where i found the original posting...

"Caricature is not necessarily racism -- without caricature there can be no art.

The movie was apparently driven from Coppola's personal experience of Tokyo, but it is not a documentary, so only the protagonists get sympathetic treatments, everybody else must be a story/plot device.

I don't think cultural centricity is a soft form of racism; more accurately it is just chauvinism, something that we all are "guilty" of.

If Japan weren't truly an alien place to the non-Japanese-speaking anglo-european, there would be no "lost in translation", and no movie exploring these issues to be made here."

Good points I think I hate to see a movie like this get folks up in arms but then again I guess everything is offensive to someone out there. Again it will stand as Floozy Speak's Movie of 2003 regardless.

Seems to me if they are offended about Lost in Translation how do they take Iron Chef or Most Extreme Elmination tv shows.. those must be offensive as all hell.

emerging technology

Just missed it! Doh. I want to go to this next year. This would of been an excellent conference. So much of this emerging tech is reaching the tipping point. Great stuff. Next year.. must go.. next year.

Microsoft comes for yer kitchen. More visions of the future home.

Check out fotonotes. This could be a useful site for research, getting people to document and tell stories of their surroundings. And at etcon, Flickr another tool like fotonotes hit the scene.

Who are you? What are you worth? Let Swipe take a crack at it. Blogs blogs blogs blogs! Social Hacking.

one day to happiness

Soon all over the world, a nation, proud and full of understanding and yes 3 nukes per child shall rise up and be happy for tomorrow is the day of happy-ohyes-ness.

The order has arrived, its media madness! Today I get to play "what dvd-r media works best!" Todays contestants are: Ritek, Samsung, BeALL and Accu! Who will stand out as usable media! Bring on the Sony DVDR deck and let the games begin! I wish decks in general would just tell me what to buy. Todays media selection is unique in that these are all white ink jet printable media discs. Why? Cause thats the future baby! That and we gotta test out the Epson R300M we got here at work, just for the purpose of "printing" oh so magically. Oh yes and todays media is provided by Meritline.

Have you been frisky? Get frisky its good for the soul.

Let's see in other news, yes I've purchased my first Lommographic camera. Why? Good question, it seemed odd, different, strange and strangely attractive so what the hell. As we all know.. ha.. lomographic photography is: (from the wikipedia)

Lomography is a new take on an old style of analogue photography. The Lomo L-CA, from which Lomography takes its name, was a camera originally produced during the Communist period in St. Petersburg, Russia, though the design has recently been bought up by a Swiss firm who market it as a 'fashion camera'. The Lomo L-CA has a maximum film speed of 400 ISO, and (like all modern point and shoot cameras) keeps the shutter open long enough for each picture to be accurately exposed. The combination of automatic exposure, relatively fast film speeds, and small size encourages the Lomo user to take slightly abstract photographs.

Lomography emphasizes a casual 'shoot from the hip' attitude. Never mind when a a picture is out of focus or the framing is odd. Shoot first, judge later. Others use the technique to document everyday life, not by a well composed picture, taken at exactly the right moment, but rather by producing a series of undirected pictures that together tell a story.

I picked up a colorsplash camera. I can't decide if I really like this camera and the concept of it or am I just wowed by such incredible website design. What made me want this, was it the website or did I actually want it. A bit of both. I've seen these 4 lense, 9 lense cameras before at Urban Outfitters and always thought... why... But hey. I'm LQD ya know.. gotta go low.

Ya know speaking of Urban Outfitters, they always seem to have a great book selection.. prices are a bit high but nice selection.

BEHOLD! They have it.. I've wanted this clock forever. A classic vintage flip clock, , sure its got robot legs but yes if you want to please me get me old old old flipclock. But of course its out of stock. GRRRRR!

We're the midst of designing our war room at work. Designers, engineers, people of creative thought need space to get ideas down and organize them. Research and mass amounts of data go together, you just can't do research right unless you get alot of data.

So what's a war room at Lextant? A room that comes to life! Nice painted walls that say hey hey hey and then from there toys, lots of them to get people thinking. And lastly lots of tackable space. We got some cool ideas for this new war room we're designing. Looking at sites like urban outfitters gives me ideas.. oooh things to get maybe. The place has to be groovy.

Ya know a simple set of Bose speakers in there would be cool too. Hmmm maybe the slim mp3 ya.. that would nice. And that pole in there... now that i think about it, you could put a keyboard/lcd on that pole make it a little terminal, call up images from the server, etc.. music.. hey that'd be right outa scifi baby. I could do that... hmm more on that later, pics next week... is gonna get painted soon!

eggs and more

For years my folks have told me, preached to me, begged me to use Egg Beaters. I'm a serious egg fan, a devoted egg believer.. fake eggs??! I can't do that. EGGS are for me man, I like eggs. I have eggs in the fridge but, ok lets face it, im a waster. Once i lose my bearing on something in the fridge and how long its been there, i assume the worst- and toss it. Ok so i'm at the store the other night, the big Giant Eagle and i decide, ok fake eggs, I can do this. And the result? Not bad really, taste the same, and the southwest fesita egg beaters, those are zesty yummyness. Ok I can do egg beaters then. And yes.. still praise the glory of real eggs when I go to Bob Evans.

First pork roasts... then egg beaters.. what the heck is going on! Heck I even have 40 packs, thats right 40 packs of caprisun in the garage! Its all part of the plan.. least I keep telling myself that.

The net tells me Mini is retiring the color "indie blue" for the new coopers this year. Sniff, I really like that color.

understanding sally

Sallysue in AC2 - The Alchemist

So what do sponng, acid, mini, car, bot, toast, success, hybrid, and porn have in common? Lots actually.. well except for sponng. Check it! This is pretty interesting search tool.

And it Nokia 3620 IS not available in stores everywhere.. least not at the ATT store at Polaris. Bummer, not eve a 3650 to play with. They say "soooon" but I dont know if i can wait. I may get sight unseen online and just try it. Hiptop goes bye bye Monday, she gave a good run but I just dont use it. I'll keep it around though. Its all part of the refinement thru pristine fiction.. its the plan for 2004, so far its working. What does not go, must go.

Next week is crunch, report findings and draw pretty graphs week.. oh ya and create video galore etc. Lots to do this week.. which not next any more. Starts tomorrow, ready set go!

Some changes on the flooz here folks. Weatherpixie appears to be no more. Dunno whats up there but for the moment you no more get weather info here, 848 you pay now! Another thing, you'll see currently reading section ive added with the help of allconsuming.net an excellent book site btw.

roastin!

It's arrived the Mean Lean Contact Roasting Machine! And how'd it do? Well first pork roast cooked like a dream. Couldn't be simpler, especially for me consdiering i want stuff just done as far as cooking goes. I actually got into a bit, preparing the pork roast, and the cooking was piece o cake. And the taste? Excellent, rival's my fathers pork roast and thats saying alot! So here we got a $35 applicance that overdelivers.. I like that. Oh and it was simple to clean as well. Today.. i think i may try chicken.. or the egg casserole.

Oh btw, Lost in Translation is out on DVD, and its not as good as seeing it in the theather. Well I guess I can wait and see it at the Clint and Traci Cinemaplex. Maybe that should be more like the Wirewoods Cin'aplex on Seldom Seen. Those subs last thursday... wow. boooooom! Very nice. Its the kind of sound that makes u watch movies not cause u want to see them.. u want to hear them. LOL, good stuff Clint keep goin!

Last but not least come and experience the Whacko Jacko sound board... "cookies" really gives me the creeps. And these are hilarious.. phone pranks with sound boards..

February 06, 2004

nokia be mine

So with the hiptop going away, the realization of what I really want comes into play. I want a camera phone. More like I want a camera thats also a phone. After a little research this morning, enough to make me late for work today I think i've got my first consideration, the noka 3620. Why nokia? Well I my old 8620 has lasted a long frickin time and has been really easy to use for the most part and i love the battery life. Ummm dan a color camera phone like this may have questionable battery life... I know that but its still gotta be better than the 2 day hiptop life. Ive read mixed reviews on the 3620 and how it differs from the 3650. Part of me would consider the 3650 over the 3620 strictly for batter life, the phones are identical expect the 3620 has 65k color screen and the 3650 has 4k. But 65k color at the cost of killing battery life would bother me. Other major differences are the key pad, most people disliked but got used to what the call the "birth" keypad of the 3650.. i dont know why they call it birth. On the 3620 its back to a standard keypad. I dunno... i want life.. i want long battery life heh but with my camera phone ya know.

Course the 3620 is the new standard for that series phone.. so i dunno.. oo accessories. Hot dang 64mb card, thats what I want. One of the other probs i see in this though my ATT service has been ok really is that all I ever hear about ATT service is that it sucks. Heh.. but the tmobile coverage on the hiptop blew.. Hmmmm.

oh a found a review of the 3650 that said "Battery life an important piece for me—it’s hard to gauge this one because it’s highly dependant on the features used. Talk time is between 2-4 hours, and standby runs 7 days, but if you play with it and all its features, you can suck the life out of it in about 3 hours of playing, surfing, and photo taking. Luckily, it charges fully in just over an hour and for most fun time she plugs it into the charger." -- Now that was for the 3650, with the birth control! Hmmm.

Gah this is bad.. i keep reading good thing about this phone, sure some bad things like battery life... lol but so many good things as well.. if this keeps up i'll have one by monday i bet. Wait a sec.. software? LOL I forgot about this. 64mb card.. add mp3s? mp3 player as well.. ooo and bluetooth? Yes.. yes.. Dang I want this phone. Ha..

Hmmm so we got software, maybe gps navigation capability, hmmmm actually not quite gps but same effect.. may not even work in the states, still i like this development.

Oh ya and i'm testing this webcam notes... actually just posting this pic.. it made it to the site but didnt auto post for some reason not sure why. Check it! Well didnt work and the gif is too damn big! 60k.. make these things smaller. Heck use web adaptive saver on it.. take it down to 10k and still the same quality man!! Bad bad alpha... Ok so the image uploads ok but doesnt connect, no linkage working.

February 04, 2004

yo get to it!

Ya ever get an idea that just whacks you over the head and SCREAMS get to it? I keep having that experience. Constant reminders that time keeps on truckin while you sit on those ideas.

Microsoft OneNote, have u seen it? Check this out...

Holy Panels Batman! Geeze look at all the buttons and widgets and panels oh my.. gah too much. Its a great idea but for my needs WAAAAAY too much. So much that it turns off the brain. Info overload.. dont want this.

Still I need something like it. Much much to do in dev side of dan with doctor NOE! They actually call refer to him as "Doctor Noe" now here at work. Anyways I keep running into the need to learn, to know, to develop digital ink applications. Tablets are gonna just be mainstream here soon.. soon in the sense of years but still they just get better and now i've seen what some .net ink application people have put together on their own, mainly tablet apps that blog, or create comics, etc.. my use would be more oriented in taking notes effectivily in the field in such a way where i take out as much of the "work" for the note taker as possible. I know it can be done. It keeps proding me.. yelling at me. And then when I go open OneNote to see if i can test the concept there, its panel info overload.. woah.. too much.

I just keep getting the feeling, I can do this better, i can make it faster more effencient at work. And I know theres a market for it, the use of it would save soo much time and money on projects, getting to hard core analysis faster easier with more accuracy. On an idea like this I can see what it looks like, the gui's are in my head, what it produces, everything its like i just gotta reach in and pull it out. Well with all the dev happening here I think i'll be able to get it on the table at somepoint.

boom bang gone

BANG! There goes Netflix! Well wtf is happening here. So i'm on the basic of basic on netflix, its been nice i use it sure but its not like i gotta have it. Well today i get the "we recieved blah blah' email from them and then they tell me you've rented all you can this period, your next period starts 2/13/04.. then u can rent again. WTF is that? I never knew there was a period structure. I remember netflix being the fast and furious rent 2 watch, send back, get 2 more, constant, it was one of the great constants in the universe, like mike, a constant. But nooooo now we have periods.. u have rented all u can for this period.. wtf is that. I never knew i had limitations.. what u introduce them awhile back and just never told me, hell never asked me?! Bang! Membership gone!

I swear i never knew netflix had such a limiation, my understanding of it was that if i got the 2 rental deal, u rent 2, watch 2, return, get more continued.. there was never any realization that there was a period clause to the deal.

While i'm at it today ill see if i can kill off my tmobile thing as well... or change it over.. i dunno. I need to kill off all these little things.

spoke too soon

The Sony DVD Recorder... was well its.. picky! "disc is dirty.. insert another...that ones dirty too.. insert another.." Power ON! "oh you want me to turn on... hmmmm let me think.. ok." Its a damn picky recorder thats slow! I dont like that so far. I want things over $500 to bing into light, they leap into action, they WORK, they say hello master I am alive what would u like to do today SIR!

So the Sony recorder is a little wonky, and the media the memorex dvdr media? junk as far as i can tell. Too bad a little $$$ down the drain there weeeeee. Back again for the hunt of good working usable truly usable media. I wish dvd r players would just tell me what to buy so i dont have to go play with seven brands and unique experiences in using them all. typicall nothing works a 100%, thats joyous. I'm gonna feed it samsung dvd-rs today.. lets see how those do. This shouldnt be a continued hit or miss thing, dvd-rs are flooding into the market and still the media they burn on is wonky donky! WONKY! 848 I say!

In other news... Qurb! I'm trying out QURB here at work in the continued fight against SPAM! Spam is sickening soo much of it. What if I didnt have an email address do I still exist? I wonder if not having an email address flags me as a potential terroist or man with weapons of mass destruction, or better yet maybe i got something to hide eh.. EH? WELL?! hand over the hotmail account or take a ride in the black van!

So they killed off Booone in Earth Final Conflict yesterday. Sniff. I liked him. Now the series starts to really go in bizarre directions.. I think seasons 1-3 are the best.. then we start scambling for ideas.. oh ya the taleons did this too and this.. oh and that!! Damn that super bowl, i really wanted another episode of Cold Case to watch. That gal is hot!

Speaking of hot.. well hot topic. I can't believe people out there still view the super bowl janet jackson boobie flash as a "mistake" like they didnt "plan" that to happen. Hell ya they did. Hello?!? We got painted boobies at the mtv awards we got chicks kissin on primetime tv, a boobie flash is nothing just admit it. Janet Jackson's breast is the number one searched item today according to Lycos! Its like the shot that was heard across the word. The tit flash heard across the world! What a way to get yerself in the top ten of what is happenin out there. Paris Hilton must be pissed, she's down to #2 slot. And NFL people say "we are horrifed at this!" HA! and then they say "MTV will never produce another halftime.." thats BS, mass bingo like hysteria over a boob shot... I wonder how many kids went out and picked up her cds just cause recently eh? Janet Jackson record sales up 115% after super bowl boobie flash! Sad sad sad.... its sad that we're so addicted to this crap. Meanwhile true discoveries that lead to cures in medical science or wonders of the world or peace, god forbid someone actually adhered to a cease fire or something barely make a peep on the sound stage of the world. Screw that gimme the boob flashes!

Least Brooke Burke was in the top 10 searches as #1 pinup gal! Dang she is hot!

February 03, 2004

oh ya i forgot

Kiss My Ass CLEANER! Get this ok so we grab all this video from our super duper security camera rig. Its all special, so special that when i try and take the video into cleaner to process into a video i can play with..... it confuses cleaner, nope cant read it.. how bout this? nope cant read it.. and this.. nope cant read it. Cleaner, the $700 app build to the translation of video into 400 formats and what not cant read it or do what i need to do with it. GREAT! Hell lets try windows movie maker.. its free... Sure No Problem what next master? HA! Thats funny. Not only does Windows Movie Maker like it.. its loves it! Now i just gotta use the alien interface movie maker has.

next up cadaver cam...

Did i spell that right? Cadaver cam? Yes Cadavers.... looks like I get to go do CSI for real! One of the upcoming projects for said x client is to record video of operations on cadavers! Yes! That's what i wanna do! I'm born for this baby ya...

So today I hooked up the Sony RDR-GX7 DVD Recorder. I hooked up the dv camcorder with the special mini to mini firewire cable.. which is a rare find ya know.. hit the one touch dub... and it goes! Could everything please be as simple as this? Dang this is a sweet recorder as well. In fact it seems highly unworthy of me.. this is a recorder of clintdom or troyness.

Ok and another thought at hand.. we recently took 28hrs of dv footage and bumped it to dvd for a client Hence why we just got the burner ourselves. 28hrs at post production rates was insane but hey they wanted it now ok there ya go. But i sat thru some of this footage thinking theres gotta be a way to do this better, ya know add value. Steady Cam maybe? Maybe a vest that holds the camcorder? What about the digital stills ya take, they take a ton of stills at the same time, oh ya and we need that audio recording as well. Gah a ton of capturing happening.

How do capture a moment you want to relive. Audio, video.. ya sure but theres gotta be a smarter way to capture it. These steadycam rigs are simply too intense and involved for what we're doing. Hmmm VariZooooom maybe?

Actually its a two part deal, ya want video, pictures and then ya want notes and audio recording. The tablet could do the notes and audio recording... and may even the stills.. heck maybe even the video.. I dunno. Just gotta be a better way.

Oh ya and remember all that talk about stickin to yer guns and doing what u need to do? Well so far its paid off nicely. Its nice to have these little reminders that yer headed in the right direction.

the fear

So the fear is going around that dvr pvrs all that is r in recording of tv devices like tivo etc are going to zap the advertising biz cause now folks can fast foward thu commericals, what good is advertising if people can by pass it! No fair! Foul Play they say. Sure I fly by ad's, i zip and zoom past them, go away you nasty ads!

But ya know.. thinking with the advertising side of my brain.. why not just make tivo proof ads? Ok so ya zing thru an ad on fast foward right and its typically a blur of images etc.. why not pack yer 30sec commerical not with a huge production value of harry met sally show the car etc but with just one static image. Take a show from the tivo stats as being in the top 3 for being most recorded etc.. then make an ad that just says a word, white letters on black, that says yer brand thats it.. or better yet some really strange word or small phrase, and put a url at the bottom of it in small text. Next time folks sit there fast fowarding thru the ads they get this big word for 30secs or longer etc.. now that is gonna make me stop and go back and look at it. Someone should do that... dang it!

could tivo data be spoofed?

Granted a tivo is a great thing, but this...captured tivo data posted for the masses.. well just sends shivers down my spine. First lets look at the data, got the page loaded up? Ok then, now first all lets look at the top 5 there... american idol, american idol.. yes i see.. we need more shows like american idol.. see thats what a tv exec is gonna say and think. Just more frickin data to support crap shows i dont care for.. yes sure im the minority here but couldnt this be easily spoofed? Consider yer typical ad campagin for a show, say ya gotta mil to blow, couldnt you use it to simply spoof these ratings? Give away a few hundred tivos in the agreement that they tape yer show regardless if they watch it or not, just tape it, so that it spoofs the ratings here ya... i could see that. Or better yet, hack into tivo and get that data and change it around to say what u want.

I just hate this kind of data, sure its another sales tool for tivo, they can generate buzz and cash with it, but sadly it also tells the world that American Idol rocks!

see thats all it takes

always gotta post a few posts on here to post what we want to post and stuff that is with posting and all... id like to take this moment and talk to Jon. Dude you left the stove on last night!!! Bad bad room mate.. he forgets things. That or he's trying to kill me. Which is possible i guess.

Oh ya and currently reading BANG! Get yer message heard! Good book so far, flies in the face of conventional biz wisdom... i like it.

first the recorder...

Now a George Foreman Contact Roaster! YES! Ok so I fell asleep one night and woke up with the tv on and it projected into my brain the greatness of George Foreman's Contact Roaster! Oh my god YES! I need one. So I got one. What else??!

Oh ya.. so first the Sony RDR-GX7 DVD Recorder, then the Contact Roaster.. and now I need an Epson CD Printer at work... oh my.

nice comments..

So since w.bloggar tends to hang when i post, and yes I'm fully aware this is my problem and not the computers something i am doing is wrong and i realize that and i will pay the price in the end for world dommination etc.. yadda dadda.. 848.. i'll pay.

Anyways I go into floozy backend and fix it, and then i notice some nice comments left on various posts by 'see-more-butts-and-get-a-bigger-#@!!!#$!" nice. What new web spider is doing this?

First up John Hopkins from Casino.jp writes "What a great website I have ever seen. Thanks for all the hard work." Thanks John! Gotta love japenglish!

Then next up we got, Autoloan who writes "He who has a thousand friends has not a friend to spare,And he who has one enemy will meet him everywhere." How wise, man it reminds me of that chineese doctor dude in Prince of Darkness, the liquid satan fighter.

Then we got a nice post from Fishlover with "I just got a beta fish for a gift and if anybody has any information they would like to give me email me the info to my e mail address and tell me the info and please leave your email address so I can write you back and thank you and give you my opinion on how your advice worked!" what great comments from someone named Coconut.. could it be? A legit poster maybe? posting comments on a thread long gone?

And finally, Golden Brigham writes "Cultivated people foster what is good in others, not what is bad. Petty people do the opposite." again wise words from the poster that leaves off with www.enlarge-yer-pennnnus.com.

Quality postings again display proof positive that floozy works and the floozy speak is in all of us. Thanks for posting once again!

media woes

Ok so I'm in microcenter the other day.. and I'm looking for some white faced printable dvd-r's... something ya know 25 pack etc. All i can find is the mumbo jumbo 200 pack from Memorex. Now I use the Memorex white faced printable cd-r's all the time, those are great, never fail. The DVD's? Blah! the pioneer no likey, no no no likey! So I get to use those at work then.. blah.

Then I go to blockbuster to rent Underworld and Final Destination 2. "new policy sir!" Instead of the old policy where it was 3 bucks a rental and u could have the flick for 2-5 days (depending on its new factor), its now 2 bucks a day and its due back by midnight yadda yadda. OR sir.. you can partake in the big deal where you simply pay 30 bucks and rent 3 and keep them for as much as you like... $30 bucks?!?!? Oh you mean you want me to netflix them? Umm I have netflix, this is spur of the moment rental, not netflix rental... crap blockbuster! I hope they go under. I mean yer just now thinking of netflix as a possible threat? HA! Snoooze ya looose. Now every store has this new policy but you still have the same old inventory problems, u cant keep up with the netflix mass storage warehouse effect.. ok sure u have more stores, more locs but if you only offer a limited selection based on inventory.. why.. would i want to rent like that here. Bah... bang! Plus its not like i can return it to any blockbuster has to be this location... dumb dumb dumb!

The I snag a bite to eat at Wendy's. Spicy Chicken Combo, no biggie, lemonade, sandwhich no tomatto plz, chicken nuggets... and they tell me 8.48 sir.. and i say "ummmmmm too much.. its not 848..." they say "sir 848...." and I say "no its not 848.. read that back to me..." and then they say "sir its basbabsdasdansndna adsnadsnandnandna adnandnandandnandand" and i go i cant understand that and its not 848... "sir please pull around". Now i get the whole cast of spanish version of all in the family at the checkout.. and they act like our conversation at the walkie talkie frozen menu never occured... "848 please..." its not 848.... finally I break down and go into i am not of this planet mode... "do i have to pay?" "yes sir....848...."... "what am i getting..?" "2 chick sands lemonade..." "ahhh one sand" "one sand?" "yes one sand" "ok 649" "there we go"... oh and id like four sauces pal.. FOUR!!! FOUR I SAY I'm Taking you all down with me..

I'm on the hunt for a George Foreman Super Clean Roasting Machine! I've given up on coooking normally. The very notion of normalcy is disgusting to me. I felt like crap this morning.. feeling better.. maybe i'll be well afterall..
