ooof boon doggle

I miss my Mini. After driving a big truck for the past three days I really really missed my Mini.

Oww my knees and arms hurt. Moving gear is hard work I think I wanna be more a techno thinker shizzle the dizzle guy and less the piano mover guy.

So what's happening on channel flooz? Hmmm not much, i've been doing the danotes datracking of peoples lately, very good stuff. I keep learning the same things over and over... like stuff you get for x project stays with x project otherwise it always gets messed up. This was probably the 5th time i got the lesson and i think this time it will stick.

The work schedule has been intense lately. Long hours and things had to go just right and somehow they did so thats good. I love returning from the field and generating reports on the fly.. everyone high five bob on that one. My camera recording software froze a few times, probably due to laptop problems but overall good stuff. I wish for the days of lighter batteries... I want super light fuel cells or something.

Speaking of which, looks like I get to hire old troy to concept and construct some new camera mounting rigs, oh I know old C clamp boy will love it!

Dang my arms and hands hurt to day.. just need sleep most likely. I need a good massage too.

So is there really a dell store in fashion mall land? I need to check that out next week.

and now... more net ramblings and strange links. What gives look at this mini rip off! Ooooh ummm ya drool!

So what else is new? Oh ya I ran into the old ADV crowd last weekend at Oh-io-con-el-freakyo... Yep. I arrived at the Hyatt around 11am on saturday and was greeted by about three hundred kids in full cosplay dress, you name it it was there, dragonball to huge samurais to gender bendin freaks o rama! I dunno, seemed like a trip back into time for a bit there. I sat in one of the voice actress panels for a bit before i was recognized by an old friend. After all the normal questions, typical fan questions were asked I stood up and asked if it was normal to drink cocktails in the edit suite? Everyone starred at me or a sec and then the gal i knew recoginzed me and jumped down from the podium and ran over and gave me a huge hug... heh. We talked a bit and she had to go back and answer more questions. Toward the end, the devil himself appeared, old Matt Greenfield and David Willams, the monty fools showed up at the convention, I didnt expect to see them both there. For about 30mins we talked of old times and ADV's constant expansion etc. Pretty funny. They still work 14hr days there.. Ahhh well anyways it was a fun con. I talked to my voice actress friend about the biz and advised her on what she should do with her startup dubbing firm. Part of me thinks i could get back into anime pretty easily though parts of the biz clearly dont thrill me any more. Still I like the potential in the biz, its new and stays fresh thats the key to almost anything for me. I actually came up with some promo ideas for thier next flick which is Dead Leaves.. remember dead leaves?!

Hektor rocks! See now this is cool I want one of these. Hey I like this too.

I need to get back into stocks..

Hmmm this looks interesting, Taskline.

Oooooo finally!

Ooooh I just found a +7 Coca Cola Mace of Troll Smashing kick ass, I almost like it as much as my Stone Axe of Ford Motor Company Bashing! I actually agree with the article overall, huge $$$ to be had in adversting in games more so than they do it in any form currently.

Need to drive one of these.

need to stop

wasting effort... effort is wasted all the time.. lately alot and its discourging, i like to over deliver but nooooooooooo... grr it just sends a message of dont do that.. and turns me off.. i guess i want it my way maybe a little too much. still just gets on my nerves... tells me not to care and i like caring but i gotta not care so much.. how does that work... i hate wasted video, whats the point.

much to do

But today would of been a great day to call in sick. Why?

AC2 gets patched once again! Ok ok yes i know most of you could care less but when I finished my blogging this morning i tapped into ac2 to see if the update was done and behold it was!

Ooooo newness. Its the best thing about online gaming at times.. the sense of a world changing and they are doing in that fairly well in ac2.

My two characters, Barry the tact my high lvl toon is still fun but much of what he can do is aimed strictly at the high end of things where no one solos really. Barry spends his days finding stuff for SallySue the young struggling alchemist.

SallySue is fustrating to play, as an alchemist you get the feeling this spec in the game was the least developed yet still really interesting. Most spec trees for classes set one direction to take yer player. Melee yer a zerker, your magic yer an elementalist.. with the Alchemist I throw potions at people.

My spec tree as an alchemist is split 3 ways... gah. I can go lightside and toss speciality potions that do different things, basically like a Ranger but more orientated towards fire. The alchemist loves fire, breathes fire and everything either burns or blows up or oxidizes and keeps that fire going.

Darkside is my other option, darkside turns the alchemist into Mr Hyde. You transform into a mob basically a big mean mutant. Your baselines stats all increase, health, vigor etc. Plus you get a great speed boost in combat along with a set of skills to boost the darkside agenda- double attack, bloodfeast etc..

But because of the way the alchemist is structured you have to choose who you want to be. Darkside is a blast to play but yer attacks are based of the missile tree cause thats where the base of abilites are, so to hit you do fine but to defend, well that hurts cause yer not a melee character but you fight like one. So the downside of the darkside is that you dont have the melee defense skills of a typical melee player. You can't use any of the lightside skills in darkside and vice versa.

A third tree is healer and can be used by either side. Healing powers are kinda cool too, they arent player directional simply aoe effects of the alchemist. You heal yerself for 250 and so does everyone else near by all for the same vigor. Its good in groups.

Anyways long story short, alchemist is fun but hard to play. Sally dies often but at times solo's mobs much higher than herself due to darkside. Sally is so fun to play Barry feeds her habbit of wanting even more potions and items to keep her soloing as the darkside.

So AC2 is still fun and I know that puzzles many of you. I've met some good people in game and still solo quite often and have taken up questing more and more. Lately the loot and new changes they've made to weapon effects and new mobs has been great. And dang it I wish I was home playing this new update already!! heh ahh well..

Gotta work!

random updates

4am I feel the weight of the world looming. Can't sleep so I'll blog a bit on new surfing discoveries... like -

2 new trailer updates to Innocence the sequel to Ghost in the Shell. I don't really care for the lack luster audio track and the obvious 3d animation screams "i don't belong" but we'll see. It doesn't look like a production the author intended, he's usually a bit more mysterious than this.

Speaking of 3d, lightwave.. yes that once and mighty app i used long ago before the great wars, is now version 8! Gah.. looking at this stuff just makes my brain hurt.

2Advanced has been one of the most influential websites ever created. It has sparked copies and furious flash development all in the race to push the envelope of website design. CGTalk talks to the creators.

More talk on the WETA evangelion live action connection out there. Not much new but did find a nice collection of evas.

Rendered but should be semi-ok for work is CG Chicks What's up with That? Nice article.. girls just render better i figure. Look if yer gonna stare at the pc for hours on end creating something.. cg chicks isnt all that bad.

Last Samurai was a great movie and i honestly thought there was no digital effects in the flick, well none noticeable at least.

If you ever get the itch of "oh i can do that..." or want to mess with 3d but don't really have a clue and just wanna mess around... go get Zbrush! And if yer still hungry check out dogwaffle a pretty cool paint application with what feels like a new take on creating digital art.. it animates too. And lastly, check out Expression sometime for more in experimental art apps. Its one of my favs.

Ooo I love motion graphics.. check out these movie main title openings. Very cool. Must read motion graphics knowledge... want.. need.

Cool look at Halo2. Maybe its time i actually picked Halo eh?

Serious Sam lightwave 3d objects!

trying something new

Going for a new look for floozy this year, least trying on a new style. I've always been a big fan of white and well... orange.. sure ok. Not much happenin lately. I just missed GatorDave's bday so wish him a happy birthday and much gator love! Gatordave.net is out there yet.. but not alive just yet we'll be putting that together soon. So far so good on the new tunes, Kish Kash is a freaky ride as expected but good overall. I caught up on all the Vandread from season 1, now taking on season 2. Speaking of all things viewable and anime like.. Witch Hunter Robin.. ok well the first dvd was pretty good. But the second disc... gah ok so Robin's powers are more controlable but i hate seeing so many obvious short cuts taken in an anime production. I mean this is frickin Bandai, move the characters people ellooo.. ahh well. The series is ok but its slipped a few notches.

Dave just called to inform me that the gator man himself is doing just frickin dandy folks.. frickin dandy!

In other other news, Ohayocon4 is this weekend at the Hyatt downtown. I haven't been to an anime convention in oh.... about 4 years so I think i'll stop by and check it out. I even noticed a few old friends on the guest list.

amazon arrives

Well every now and then i break down and buy a record.. and like anything from amazon I tend to pick up a few more books to boot. More biz books? Yep. Mikey will have to see about reading them as well.

Ok so on to the loot.

First up, I Find You Very Attractive, not sure how I found this cd. I stumbled across it looking for good funky retro lounge tunes no doubt, and so far this cd is great. Excellent Vann Swann groovin in his Mini Cooper music. Look for choice cuts off this cd on Vann Swann's next compilation! Next up we have Kish Kash from Basement Jaxx. Now usually the Jaxx kids are a little too happy house for me, but after a listen online it seemed pretty decent so I'll give it a whirl. Long overdue for purchasing is Kinky. Its a toss up between SomaFm and Gator Dave on who exposed me to them first. But if I like an artist enough i'll buy them. Kinky is excellent stuff and can be heard on multiple tv series intros (nip and tuck used it a few times, i think csi and alais featured thier tracks as well), car commericals, and of course the Honda Hybrid Garage piece.

In a shift of sounds we go to Emiliana Torrini. I was looking for something a little smooth possibily dark but full of vocal goodnness. I love a good female vocal. So I'm giving her a try after what I heard on amazon. Kinda reminds me a bit of Perfume Tree a cd I will always associate with deep dark depression yet hopeful. Wrapping up our cd loot is Crystal Method's new cd. I wanted to see how the sound was changing for them. I look foward to big beats.

On the book side I picked up BANG a book on advertising probably one of my favorite biz book obsessions. I have a love hate relationship with marketing. This will be another book to add to my collection. But hey yer in video.. ya.. well. Along the same lines as the Tipping Point, an excellent read btw I picked up The Influentials. Whew more books, ok now I have to finish Pattern Recognition, ReeferMadness, Digital Fortress and Da Vinci Code...

Ok rounding out the list I also got the last disc of the first Vandread animation series. A hilarious series btw, highly reccomended!! Again if the animation proves promising I'll pick it up.. Witch Hunter Robin is another example of a possible worthy series. Ok that wraps it up! Well i am waiting on one last thing...

coming back to life..

Listening to the Royal Groove 2003 Showcase. Strongly recomended if you like the funk, the funk is good. Skip around a bit if need be but ya.. goodness I like the funk!

music

Typically music is a sure fire way to get me on the high side of living. Maybe its mood generation but a good track can bring back from the depths of whatever where ever ive been.

Why does green tea taste like fish?

feeling better

And listening to friskyradio. I still listen to DSR6000 occasionally. SomaFM is pretty good too. Lately though I've been finding nice gems of tracks in the big dj mixes from Friskyradio. Sadly, if you want to put them on cd, I have to use a splitter to break up the main file etc. But at least then they just burn to cd with no hitches, the DSR6000 tracks have be converted once u download them to get on cd ok.

2:00pm and feeling better, even ate something.

state of the flooz

Early 2004 and I've been kinda out of it lately. Something at the Hunan Lion took me down on tuesday, least I blame the Lion, actually I blame me first. I love that basil chicken but it never occured to me there may be something in that i'm allergic too. Its one of those spicy tastes great oh god im sick now meals. This was the second time it did it to me, last time i thought it was something else. I've been drinking water and sleeping for nearly 72hrs as a result of it. Today i'm still out of it but feel like an empty shell. Divide by zero minus seven etc.

Maybe its the weather. I dunno what triggers it but I know this feeling, maybe its depression, for as much as I'd like to think depression me, nah no way.. I feel its definately possible. I havent actually attempted to really eat right in a long time, or maybe i need excersise, or maybe i'm just trying to battle a force that is here now and you cant do anything until i leave.

Depression is in the family, and i've felt it before. Maybe I tie it to that feeling that theres no spark lately, no spark is motivating me. Is the loss of inspiration my way of defining depression? Maybe i'm just sick and sleepy and fighting a cold and not depression. But i can say that weather does something to me, crappy day out and i feel it, sunny day out and i feel that too. So somethings up, just cant place it between sickness and depression. Yesterday was sickness, today i feel empty. Recovering maybe.

I long for silence. When was the last time it was really quiet for you? No on going hum of electronics, no buzz of something near by or lights. Just the wind outside trying desperately to get in.. thats a nice sound. My memory tells me the last time i was truly silent was in Montana in that bed and breakfast house. That old house filled with antiques, magazines from the 30's and an old dog the size of a bear. That was silence. Again only the wind guided my reaching out to find a sound if any.

I need to get those noise cancellation head phones. Then maybe i could experience no sound freedom.

About the only thing that was good yesterday other than sleeping or listening to the wind howl outside my windows was catching up on tivo. Ok that and drinking water, i love water but I fear the taelons.

So aside from being totally out of it what else is happening?

daHiatus on daDevelopment is over, that should make a certain programmer friend of mine happy. And i've decide 2004 will be the year of sticking to the guns, I did that last year but only after i got really beat up a few times and kept running into the same answer. This time around, its just funny, ideas i had two years ago keep coming back to the table and my gut says yes and while there will always been folks that said no, this time i just plan to ignore them. I keep an open mind on them cause i think maybe of the crazy ideas i have are just that, sparks in a vacum, some ideas could fly not all of them surely.. but i hate it when i have a gut feeling on something and then abandon it cause of the general vibe of my peers only to then end up back on this page come 6 months later.

Not always but alot of times the future is on your lap, it just arrived and it hasnt checked in yet. It gives you a window of opportunity. Need to act on that more. And debate less with those that dont see your vision. Its the year of vision perhaps.

"Photographs tell our stories across the years and over the terrain of our lives" - i'm revisiting the WWMX tech from Microsoft Research today. Catching up on some blogs since my mind is blank at the moment. I remember seeing this tech awhile back and not really acting on it. I think i need to give it a whirl again for work purposes. I could see how a tool like this could be interesting for research. Especially the Travelogue tool. This will also be the year of the dan gps intergration... mainly for varied research reasons. I want to get back to mapping an experience, like Gallery Hop night in the short north, need a good pilot project so i can study and consider how i'd sell the concept to other kinds of events. That doesnt really make any sense i bet but I still plan to do it.

The sun is out.. does that change anything? Maybe. All I can really think about is 5pm and going back to sleep.

Maybe i need to come up with my own law.. Flooz Law, like this this or this. Currently surfing this. On yes and another blog tool here...

I wonder if this list ever gets updated.

Anyone remember when I used to be obsessed with fonts?

I've adjusted my bloglines roll, its not as intense as it once was. Reading less. Ahhh neat newness in google.

Well its about time tablet users got a blogging tool for handwritten notes and such.. now if they'd just release it.

We knew it was coming its about time its here. Wheels of Zeus ya baby ya.

Is anyone still reading this?

----------

11:30am, feeling better.. maybe catching up on blogs and blogging itself is good therapy for me. Since one of these babies walked.. maybe I can upgrade.

the dream

I always get a good dream when i skip dinner in the evening.. like clock work sometime early am the dream arrives. This one was vivid. I was in some tropical island paradise at an easton like shopping center area looking at rugs. I just remember the patterns of different rugs on display and big yellow dusty roman like stone columns everywhere. In fact most of the space around me looked roman. I wandered around that for awhile.. the cut to a shot of Bob, Troy, Todd and Clint watching the news in one of these exotic like buildings, i just remember looking up at the sky light initally it was way up there and the rays of the sun perferctly shot into the room from above. A big glass door was open on one side of the room and a big massive hose now that i recall it, was running thru the room and out that glass door.

On tv was an overhead view of a fire destroying homes in a near by complex. I asked about the hose and then saw the tv again and the helicopter view of the complex showed one house left.. it wasnt on fire but fire raged all around it. Someone tells me its Clint & Traci's summer house (dang they got a summer house even!?) and Todd points out the window and we can see the house way over there.. across a pond and something else. Next thing I know i'm asking how and we're standig before this section of water that seperates the building complex on fire from where we are now.. people get in the water and start to swim across towards the fire... i first thing hey this could be bad and think about maybe thats like acid water man dont do it but then we're in scuba gear and dropping down into cool blue water, Bob swims over to this massive pipe complex taps a guage and then fastes a big hose to valve on this really huge pipe section. Next i see troy and clint propping up hoses near the house they just keep washing it down the fire is by crackling and you can see fire in the remote distance. Then i wake up.

what ever happened to askin the bellhop

Reading Where on Earth is Your Website gets me wondering. How did anyone find anything before the web? What about just asking the front desk where that good italian place is in town or near the hotel, heck ask the bellhop, ask the locals... fear not though, soon you'll just know cause everyone will have their positions reserved in 3D space to let you know. Why think or be social at all! Don't risk it! Why is the end user always played out as a total idiot. Ahhh well.

Typically I like tech concepts like this, the end user example just angered me a bit... just seems like piss poor argument to me.

church widows

I dunno what it is but there is something I really like about Church Windows and Channel 3 of Wild Palms the faded long forgotten tv mini series that aired on tv back in 1993. Maybe it was music, or maybe the acting... er no probably not alot of that. The story was fun, i liked it for the most part but I just wanted more of tech aspect of it maybe.

Anyone reading this ever see Wild Palms? Oh I like this quote.. "Wild Palms was a heady mix of soap, cyberspace and Twin Peaks style weirdness." Thats true. Yes yes and more "Kreutzer attempts to take over the world by addicting the masses to Mimosine (a drug that can make holograms appear solid) and implanting himself with the GO chip which he thinks will make himself immortal." Is it real or is it Mimecon!

Ya know if anyone ever comes across the original soundtrack for this flick, why I'd be in their debt! Hmmm I need this too.. The Wild Palms Reader

state of the flooz

Well the year is 2004. Wow, 2004... that's a year I used to read about i scifi books when I was i highschool. 2004 or two-thousand and four is pretty darn spiffy to me. What's to come in 04? Much rejoying i'm sure.

Ummmm what are the plans for 2004... lets see. The usual, get fit, eat right, learn more, do more, play more, work well... more. Write more maybe. Ya i could that. Read more maybe... must do that. I still have to finish Reffermadness, DaVinci Code, Digital Fortress, The Tipping Point, Luck Factor, and a half dozen other books I don't ever seem to get aroud to readig.

Ya know speaking of reading, I'd like to get a nice recliner this year. A big lazyboy ala massage chair, now thats what I need.

Well it was a pretty quiet break ending with a party hardy weekend, first a bday party for my brother Chris and then Traci's Graduation party. I was suprised to see Steve at Traci's party, I dunno just didn't expect to see him there but I'm glad I did. Everyone seems well, that 2004 effect. Everyone's got a plan for the year, do more do more!

So what is the state of the flooz lately? It was just a mellow break, nothing really to report. The Vann Swann Xmas cd was a big hit with the family, especially my sister, she got the limited edition one that Clint would probably want. In between the various tracks on the cd, Vann Swann talks about why those recordings are so special to him. Most of ya don't know my Vann Swann character, I made him up last year while on vacation with family. Kinda an inside joke between my sister and I, and she was a big fan of the Mad Lion so those that know the Mad Lion can only assume Vann Swann is of simmilar material.

Other than that, lets see Gator Dave is well, yes I've seen him. We really need to do another episode of Talkin Crap, we're waaaay overdue. So look for that soon.

Troy has been poking me over Dark Kitty, yep yet another creation that needs more heh. More more! That all reminds me to get in touch with my artist down south, where are my character sheets for Fish & Hami.

I've been dumping old anime and trippy dan videos i did on VHS way back when to the tivo/dvdr to burn on dvd. Some of them really bring back a few crazy memories. I have some video of Steve on one of them. And I found my Wild Palms!

Dark Kitty where art thou?

If you haven't done it, check out Dan's Dark Kitty Trailer this is a little something he did many many years ago. It was supposed to evolve in to a comic or some other medium. Hell he had anime producers asking when they could have the first episode! Anyway, I digress... Watch it, then tell Dan, "WHERES MY DARK KITTY DAMNIT!" We want more! You've had years! We want more! :)
